After the excitement of accessing the River Dell Sr. Class of 1963 web site and dusting off my yearbook, I was sincerely saddened to view the loss of former classmates.
While I had heard about Iain at one of the 7/4 events in Oradell a long time ago, it brought back good memories of what had been.
Iian had been asked to step up to the goalie position, by the legendary, successful, late Head Soccer, Coach Muehleck, who as you point out on the web site, now has a permanent monument dedicated to him at the Oradell baseball field complex for his work with area youth. If memory serves me right, Iain was asked by Coach to replace a very good All-State calibre senior soccer goalie in his junior year and I was fortunate enough to play in front of Iain and behind his younger brother, Robin, a forward, for two years, as a halfback in a game completely new to me.
Iain wrote in my yearbook, "Luck and success in the future to a great halfback (soccer), Iian (goalie). What that reminded me of, is that he always gave credit to others, although he himself was very successful as a soccer goalie, and what I'll always remember of about him, is his rising above the players crowd in front of his net to fearlessly bat away a soccer kick and save the day for the Golden Hawks!

I was shocked and saddened when I heard of Iain's death in a car accident in Pennsylvania about 20 years ago. I had known Iain since Kindergarden, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and First Congregational Church. One memory that comes to mind, that is a real fine one of Iain occurred when we were Boy Scouts in Troop 152. There was a Camporee one year behind the Safeco Insurance Company on Kinderkamack Road, and later at a troop meeting Iain was asked to come forward where he was recognized for allowing the troop to win the first place Blue Ribbon, by performing this extrememly hard task of starting a fire using flint within the alloted time. I remember Iain as an easy going fun person, who as a kid I always had fun playing sports, biking or just messing around with him. He grew up in a big family in an interesting big house on cobblestone Webb Avenue, up the hill from Kinderkamack Road. He was a real good soccer goalie who went onto a great soccer college Dennisson in Ohio and was also a smooth basketball player. We will always miss you Iain.
