River Dell Sr. High School 1963
Mike Rosenfeld
1945 - 2006
My brother Mike passed away last night. He was so upbeat about this web site and gave joy just to hear about the class, I thank you for that.

From Steve Rosenfeld

Thanks you to all for your kind e-mails. Mike had fought brain cancer for over 30 years. This last few months it came back and he just said he had enough treatment. He did start to get better and I think he was hoping to be well enough to attend the reuion. Last Sunday things went bad . My sister Debby was able to get him home, where he wanted to be and he passed in his sleep. Mike was so proud to be a member of class of '63 and was always interested in how
everybody was doing. I know he will be with us in spirit.

Memories from Blaine Pool

Hey Rosey", as his good friend George Labita would say so often that it became preserved for the ages in the caption under his high school yearbook picture.   The two good friends would probably then coordinate their work schedules whether it be caddying at River Vale, Edgewood. White Beaches or Hackensack Golf Clubs or flipping burgers at the Golden Key up on Route 17 where their friends could get freebies at closing time or with Bob Swarz, Francis Gorman and Kerry Matthews keeping the movie goers in line ushering at the Bergen Mall Theatre or planning some after dark venture.

The Rosenfeld house became a good place for Mike and Steve's high school buddies to hang out and plan teenage adventures.   It is where I would go so often to start the evening to see what was happening when I wasn't involved in sports or scouts.   There was a large group of us that hung out together.   It is where we left from for the bus trip "one step beyond" to the Twilight Zone coffee house in Teaneck.   Usually before we could drive we would go down the street to Naomi's and Toni's San Lucia Pizzeria to hang out.   Ed Winters always rode his bike there and Steve Abrams was one of the first to drive and would show up wirh his big car.   Later at Rosey's house is where I became familiar with poker and New Year's Eve parties where I was told you should drink beer through a straw.    Along with the previous mentioned classmates there were Gary Rice, Geoff Hamilton Joe Pospis, "Chico", Bobby LaPietra who had his own house at the southend of town to hang out at, Al Blackman,  the boys on Madison Avenue under the hill from Kinderkamack, "Pop's Grandy, Lee Bondy, Paul Cohen, Greg Vinci, Paul Kobelt, Dave Kott, Danny Biggar, Steve Frigyes, Tom Rushworth, Rick Spring.

After high school Mike moved out to California where in 1974 on a summer vacation making the big loop through the great West I went to his apartment in Venice Beach when I passed through LA.   I also wanted to see that uninhibted hippy beatnik town which briefly that summer before the government could get the courts to shut it down had the nude beach.

I feel much older and sadder when I logged onto the web site last night and read Steve's posting on his twin brother's passing.   My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family, Steve.   I enjoyed growing up with you guys over the years which goes way back to being teammates for years in Little League.   Rest in peace Mike and we'll see you later on the other side.
